SCED09 Software

From Education

Jump to: navigation, search

We are now in preparation for the big event in Portland: SCEd'09! This page collects information for the two software offerings that the Education program will provide: software and data for the laptops, and software and data for the participant USB keys.

The laptop setup will again consist of virtualization. The difference from last year is that we are planning for a Linux host and a WinXP guest. The distribution of Linux is currently planned to be Ubuntu, unless someone emails Kevin Hunter a convincing argument for something different.

As the majority of presenters I currently know about will be using Windows, that is where the software listed below will be installed. However, if you need Linux, know that that is an option. Right now, I have one application for it (OpenFOAM), so I haven't yet made a table.

Note that there are two sections below, one for the laptops, and one for the USB keys.

  • Notes made last year in-conference to keep in mind while building software images for this year.

Do not edit this list. For my sanity, and double-checking purposes, I (Kevin Hunter) will keep this list updated based on email I receive. If you need something added, email me or Michelle King.

Mathematica Richard Gass Y N N Per necessity, we will be installing this on-site. This is mainly due to limitations with the licensing scheme.
GridMathematica Richard Gass N N N I am not handling this portion, but list it here so it doesn't get lost.

Windows software

I will take care of all packages in the Base Inclusion. I need you to upload or make available necessary files for installation of other packages. Email me if you need an FTP username and password.

USB Key Image

This is simply an image. I'll organize files as necessary on the image, and we'll write the image to the USB keys on site. (The imaging/copying process historically takes 2-3 hours.)
