The SC07 Broader Engagement initiative and the SC07 Education Program are seeking partnerships with SC exhibitors that may include volunteer time, financial support, and/or in-kind contributions. Both programs seek to engage a larger and more diverse community of researchers, high school and college educators, as well as high school and college students who will directly benefit from their participation in all aspects of the conference including exposure to your organization.

The Education Program and Broader Engagement initiatives address communities that have traditionally been under-represented in high performance computing. The programs will be active in engaging the community throughout the year. This under-representation is a critical national issue and your organization will receive national recognition for your support. In return for your support, the participants will be provided with opportunities to learn more about your organization during the SC07 conference as well as during over seven regionally distributed summer workshops and other outreach events that will occur throughout the year.

Below are opportunities for partnerships in support activities that are vital to broadening the participation in the SC conference series and engaging significantly more people in using HPC tools and resources. If you are interested in discussing these programs further, please contact Scott Lathrop (lathrop@mcs.anl.gov) or Jennifer Teig von Hoffman (jtvh@bu.edu).

Sincerely, Jennifer Teig von Hoffman, Boston University and Scott Lathrop, University of Chicago/Argonne National Laboratory

Opportunities for Partnerships with SC Exhibitors

• Mentorship Program - We are actively seeking mentors to match with proteges from groups which have traditionally been under-represented in high performance computing. Mentors will help guide their proteges through a meaningful computing project.

• Event Hospitality Support - Funds are sought to support hospitality and catering services for both structured and informal events at SC07.

• In-Kind Donations - Participants will represent a wide variety of institutions, ranging from national research laboratories to community colleges to high schools. You may be interested in making in-kind donations of hardware, software, or other goods and services.

• Supporting additional community outreach - we will be pleased to consider offering workshops and outreach in locations that match your organization's community outreach efforts

• Presentations - we would welcome a presentation/demo of computational tools/resources that demonstrate improved research, teaching and learning of math, science and/or engineering methods that can be adopted by the participants in their own practice.

• Internships - we would very much like to make known to the participants internship opportunities that may exist in your organization. These could be for students, teachers and/or faculty.

• Loans and/or discounts of hardware/software that directly benefits HPC and computational science applications across all disciplines

• Support for Student Competitions - we will be conducting an on-site student competition. Assistance to defray costs, would be appreciated.

• Awards - there are three categories of awards that will be made at SC07 - for faculty, for K-12 teachers, and for students (high school, undergraduate, and graduate) that demonstrate exciting and innovative applications of computational science in math, science and/or engineering. Your support of one or more awards would allow us to recognize talented people from around the country.

• Support for Student Competitions - we will be conducting an on-site student competition. Support of prizes for the students, as well as the costs to host the competitions would be welcome.

• Career opportunities - we will be conducting a career opportunities program for students and would appreciate exhibitors participating to share their perspectives on opportunities in their organizations.
