The Call
Hi everyone,
Please join us in Durham, N.C. from Feb. 29 - March 1. We are gathering past and potential workshop instructors to plan and prepare for the upcoming SC Education pathways workshops.
There are loads of important stuff to cover: workshop planning, materials development and discussions of future directions.
Let me know if you can make it and I'll put you on the "can make it" list. We'll try to book a block of rooms next to Shodor, which is where the meeting will be taking plcae The SC Pathways funding will reimburse your travel costs, so long as the flights are booked far enough in advance.
We look forward to gathering with you. Plan on it being memorable.
The Agenda (See the Pathways Agenda for the current rendering.)
Hi everyone,
The agenda for the meeting slated for Feb. 29th - Mar. 1 in Durham at the Shodor Education Foundation will be
* to formalize goals and outcomes for the Pathways and SC Ed program activities, * to establish curriculum for the summer workshops, * to identify omissions in our current offerings, * to help identify additional instructors for the summer workshops, * to shore up computational resources needed to support the workshops * to plan for discipline-specific Pathways follow-up meetings, * to meet and greet all of the other wonderful instructors involved in the program.
(This is what's currently "written in water," as we say...and subject to change a bit.)
When making flight arrangements, please plan on being in Durham on the 29th in time for an evening gathering and a full meeting day on Saturday (8:30 a.m. through 5:00 p.m.).
If flying into Durham, RDU is your best bet for your airport destination.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to e-mail or call me at the number below.
Logistics
Hi again, everyone!
Some additional details for the Durham Pathways meeting:
Airfare and hotel expenses will be reimbursed through the SC Pathways funding. Currently this does *not* include rental cars -- please let me know your arrival and departure times and we'll coordinate airport pickup and drop off. You'll be on your own to purchase flights and hotel costss, but I'll have reimbursement forms on site to help expedite reimbursements.
Please book airfare early, as reimbursements may be limited to "normal fares," and increased costs due to flights booked too close to the travel date won't likely be fully reimbursed. Several folks have already booked their flights and they're coming in around $350 or less to fly in and out of RDU.
I strongly suggest making reservations at the "Durham Marriott at the Civic Center":
http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/rducv-durham-marriott-at-the-civic-center/
The Marriott is located within a stone's throw of Shodor's offices (in fact, I'm told if you look closely at the picture in the URL above, you'll see the reflection of Shodor's building in the glass). Government rates are currently available at $97. It's about $20 more for non-government rates. If the rooms fill up, there is a Holiday Inn nearby that might be the best alternative.
Meals will be provided during the meeting, including Breakfast on Saturday.
There is wireless networking available at Shodor. You are encouraged to bring your own laptop if you would want to be jacked in to the Internet during the workshop.
Shodor's address is 300 West Morgan Street, Suite 1150 Durham, NC 27701. There is a map that shows how to get there on Shodor's web site: http://www.shodor.org.
